Brienz region
Woodcarving village Brienz
From the camp site, take a relaxed walk along the shores of Lake Brienz to Brienz train station. This is the start of the promenade along the shore – the Quay – where you can admire the breathtaking view across to the Giessbach waterfalls or Interlaken or numerous carved sculptures for which the village is famous all over the world. And your kids can let their hair down from time to time at various play stations. Take in the amazing view from the church and walk through the picturesque «Brungasse» alley and upper village back to the camp site.

Ballenberg, Swiss Open-Air Museum
Immerse yourself in times gone by and discover rural life in Switzerland in the old days. Watch a baker, beekeeper or charburner go about their daily work, indulge in home-made delicacies or watch the numerous farm animals. Your kids have plenty of space to play and discover along the well-maintained paths (it is recommended to wear solid shoes). Take a picnic and relax in the fresh air at one of the many barbecue and picnic spots.

Trauffer World of Experiences
Did you know that the most famous wooden cow in Switzerland comes from Hofstetten near Brienz? There is hardly any other cult object – next to cheese and chocolate – that is associated so strongly with Switzerland as the charismatic cow with the red / black / pink / blue patches. Yes, it is getting colourful at Trauffer World of Experiences where you can paint your own cow in your very own colours. Explore the origins of the popular souvenir at the KUHniversum.

Giesbach Falls
The huge water volume of the Giessbach tumbles down 14 levels into Lake Brienz – an impressive sight, especially following rainy days. Here at Camping Aaregg, you can rent a motor boat and take in this amazing display from Lake Brienz, or you can walk to the falls, which takes approximately 60 minutes. Don’t forget to walk behind the waterfall and enjoy the view of the fairy-tale Grand Hotel Giessbach and the turquoise-blue Lake Brienz through the raging spray.

Brienz Rothorn Bahn
Switzerland’s only steam-powered cogwheel railway steams and stamps its way slowly up to our local peak, the Brienz Rothorn. A trip on this train is an adventure at any time of the day, from early sunrise mornings to full moon nights. You enjoy a breathtaking view of Lake Brienz and the surrounding mountains throughout the entire journey.

Schnitzlerweg Axalp
If you don’t feel like the approx. three-and-a-half-hour ascent, you’d best take the bus to visit the Axalp. Once at the top, you can admire many unique and sometimes humorous wood sculptures along the well-maintained Schnitzlerweg trail. Don’t forget to take a photo on the bench with the funny chicken. After around one hour, you reach the picturesque Hinterburgseeli lake. Take a breather at one of the picnic spots and enjoy the quiet above the emerald-green water.
